William Goodchild - Conductor
William works regularly with a number of international and national orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the London Metropolitan Orchestra, the Emerald Chamber Orchestra and the BMCO. As conductor and orchestrator he has undertaken numerous projects for the BBC including several major natural history series such as Wild China (2008), Ganges (2007), and Europe a Natural History (2005). He has just completed Natures Great Events which was recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios and broadcast on BBC1 in the early part of 2009. William has recorded for Sony Classical, Universal Classical and Jazz, and CBS Records. He has collaborated with soloists as diverse as John Williams, Andy Sheppard, members of the Maggini Quartet, Natalie Lomeiko, Alasdair Malloy, O-Duo and Tom Jones.
Having been a Junior Exhibitioner in violin and piano at the Royal College of Music and a Music Scholar at St. Pauls School, William studied music at the University of East Anglia and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His conducting teachers included Richard Hickox, John Lubbock and George Hurst. He studied piano with Sidney Harrison and John York.
William composes and produces music for film and television specialising in natural history and history documentary. Recently broadcast natural history commissions include Snow Monkeys (BBC Natural World and Animal Planet, 2009), Lobo the Wolf that Changed America (BBC Natural World and Thirteen/ WNET, 2008) - winner of the Jury's Special Prize at the Wildscreen International Film Festival 2008, Humpbacks from Fire to Ice (ABC Australia and National Geographic, 2008), Bearman (Channel 5 and National Geographic) and Peter Scott a Passion for Nature (BBC 2, 2007). History features have included Athens the Truth about Democracy (Channel 4, 2007), When the Moors Ruled in Europe (Channel 4, 2006) and Ancient Worlds Brought to Life (Readers Digest, 2006). William has just completed a major 6-part series titled Wild Russia for National Geographic International and Animal Planet due for broadcast later this year. He is currently orchestrating and will be conducting two major projects for the 2009 Bristol Music Festival launching the Colston Hall Redevelopment: 'Nature's Great Events Live' with footage accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra on 22nd September, and 'New Forms 2' with Roni Size and Reprazent on 25th September.
